Asalaamu alaykum wrwb,
Sometimes we need reminders from others about why we are doing what we are doing. And, sometimes I need reminders for everything. From nursing school to Islam. Or, if I'm really in a mood, I need a reminder of why I'm waking up in the morning. At times we look to others to set examples for us. A light to lead the way. You know "I wanna be like her/him when I grow up". Sometimes we look to the wrong examples. Leading us to be sucked into something unlawful, or turning us away from our dreams.
That's what happened to me this past week. I saw bad examples of Muslims, and they were teaching me all the wrong things. Opposite of what I learned in the past few years. If I was a few good years (like 5) into Islam, maybe I wouldn't have this problem. But since I'm rather new (only 1 year practicing), I absorb everything, even the wrong things, easily. But instead of sucking me into a way of their thinking-a way of hate, it sort of turned me off to everything. But, I should have known better, and now I see it was probably Shaytaan playing with my mind.
I guess it would be similar to seeing bad nursing skills, and swearing you'll never be a nurse. Seeing the politics in the hospitals, and dropping out of nursing school, or quitting your career as a nurse. Or having the best-of-best nurses take care of you when you're sick, and then decide to pursue a career in nursing. I have to remind myself not to get sucked the PPN scene. (PPN= piss poor nursing). To treat every patient with the utmost respect. To never show them prejudice, no matter what they can, or will say to me. This is how I need to treat Islam. To avoid getting sucked in to all negativity. This is the path I want to go, and nothing should sway me away from it. Like nothing is going to change my mind about nursing.
The moral of the story: Don't let Shaytaan play with your mind! Surround yourself by good examples. And make dua'a for all on the wrong path. So, go now, and clean up your friends on Facebook. And, always think this to yourself when times get tough "Allahu Akbar" -God is Greater! Alhamdulilah for my Revert Support Group for helping me drive out the whispers of the Shaytaan.
As for me, I have things to get in order before school starts back up. T-minus 8 days! And remember....... Allahu Akbar! =o)

Run, hijabi, run!
Asalaamu alaykum,
My adventure started last night with my kitty cat, she came inside all bloody. Poor baby! I guess a dog got her. She's doing much better this evening; She's starting to jump up on things, and back to attacking us.
I stayed up till 2am worrying about her. And wouldn't you know, my alarm clock went off to soon, 6am! 4 hours and a couple of snooze buttons later, I decided to roll out of bed. Today was my first ever 5K walk/run with my sister! I was excited! And, because I drive a little on the slow side (I go the speed limit), I showed up a little later than I thought. But it was all good! I only missed the 1 mile runners.
(my sister and I)
It was, I think, the longest 3.2 miles of my life! I thought I wasn't going to make it. I felt sort of bad for slowing down my sister. She's a personal fitness trainer, and she could have left me way in the dust. But, because she loves me, she pulled me along. We jogged a little in burst, and walked most of it. It was more off road than on road. The scenery was awesome. It was like being on a speedy nature hike.
When we got back, we found out that I had won a door prize of an ice pack, some fish-oil sample gel vitamins, and a cream for aches and pains. I needed it too after all that! We floated around, took pictures with a fitness magazine guy, and ate chick-fil-a breakfast samples. My sister wanted to change out her shirt for a different size. So, we waited a bit longer and as soon as we were about to leave, I heard my name over the loud speaker. I had won a raffle drawing for a free 1hr spa day, and an all day gym experience valued to be $335! Woot-woot!!
(Coming around to the finish)
I'm still excited and happy. The endorphins are still flowing, but the lack of sleep is about to knock me out. And with that, I bid you adieu.
Hope everyone has a great evening i'A!

Wasting time.....
Asalaamu alaykum! (or in english, peace be with you)
Just a quick blog on how I think the internet sucks the life right out of me! LOL... As soon as I sit down just to check my email or Facebook, I end up clicking through a million other things, and then my final, ever lasting stop is that goofy FB game, CastleVille. Oh, and this includes my Android phone as well... that's like a pocket computer. A Poke-KaPuter... haha! Like Pokemon?!!! Okay, so my humor sucks... if you don't laugh at my jokes, at least laugh at my crazy ass! :P
I start off meaning well. But then I find myself hopelessly sucked into the monitor, with a little droll dripping down... staring... waiting for something exciting to happen. As if I know a little green man was going to jump out of my computer at any moment, and start dancing a jig in my living room!
It's not like I don't have a million things to do around the house, or I don't have a whole text book to read/learn, and videos to watch before school starts. I confess the computer is my addiction. A bad addiction... I'm just sitting here getting fatter and lazier...
Which reminds me of an awesome, non-computer, day I had yesterday with my sister! We went on a somewhat nature hike at the park. If the interstate wasn't right next to us, I'd swear we were in the wilderness! Then we ate lunch at Chick-fil-a... and then after she left I played with the 5 speed bike she got me for my b-day! I didn't think I would remember how to ride. The last time I rode one was... was... well crap I think I was a pre-teen lol... *grumble* I feel so old...
I should really limit my computer time. Treat myself as a child. "If you finish cleaning the kitchen, you can have computer time". But knowing me, my computer time lasts from the time I get on, til my computer dies, or I die... either or....
But yeah... I'll put effort into staying off the computer. And y'all try not to stay on the computer, or phone too long it's bad for you, too :P
Especially for the guys, wi-fi kills sperm... so that could be good, or bad... depending if you want children or not...... Wi-fi: the new male birth control. lol
Hope everyone has a great day!!

First you're American, then you're Muslim
Asalaamu alaykum wrwb,
I hope everyone is doing well!
This morning I woke up to see that I had a friend request from a guy in India. I didn't accept him right away, and proceeded to check-out his profile. I noticed under activities, he had listed: religion and anti-americanism. WTH?! I sent him an email asking why he wanted to be my friend because I was an American. He responded back with, "I'm sorry I didn't know you were an American. I thought your were a Muslim. But, now I see first you're an American, and then you're a Muslim."
I think he must have lost his mind. I then told him how he's got it all wrong. The American GOVERNMENT does not-so-nice-things sometimes, so does every other government in the world. My View:Governments all over the world use their people like pawns in a game of chess. No where is perfect. Everyone has their flaws. There will be innocent people killed in war. That's been going on since the start of wars, the beginning of time. Even though it's not right. Politics is like a whole other world. And I don't care for the "game". But to put blame on me, or to stereotype every other American from just the bad is wrong. That's like if someone would say all Mexicans are gang members, all blacks are lazy, all people from the country are ignorant, etc. Which none is true. There might be lazy Mexicans but there are lazy whites, blacks, Asians, Indians and so on... it depends on the character, and nature of that person. But just like a person you may know, it'll take 1,000 good deeds to change your mind of one bad deed.
I think this brother is on the wrong path. To cleanse your soul is to first erase the hate. I love my country. To me it's the best. But, someone else might love their country better. Or it could be a state... I love Louisiana, but someone else would favor New York. I'm not going to argue over that. To each is their own. Like spending the night out away from home. Their bed might be cozy, but I would rather be in my own bed.
I just wish everyone would get along, and erase this hate between each other.
"Kindness is a mark of faith, and whoever has not kindness has not faith." (Muslim)
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever suffers an injury and forgives (the person responsible), God will raise his status to a higher degree and remove one of his sins." Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 998

First Entry
Asalaamu alaykum,
Ok, so I sort of jumped on the band wagon, and started my own little blog. I haven't the slightest idea why...... Hopefully, this will be a positive experience for both you and me i'A. O.o
A few things about myself: I'm a mom of two, and I'm also in nursing school. Jan. 5th will be my 1 year Islamiversary. Alhamdulillah. It's been a challenging road, but it's all worth it!
I will be talking about school and it's experiences, too. Along with my "new" hijabi experiences. I am officially an Upperclassman this semester-yay! - meaning I've been in the nursing program for one year now. I'm sure there will be boring stories, sad stories, funny stories, venting (maybe, I can't promise you, but there could be some mild language usage along with the venting.)
School starts in 3 weeks and I'll be starting off with clinicals in the maternity area. *Sqeeeeee* Little babies!!! I can't wait! That will truly be an awesome experience i'A. =)
(I'm really starting to think it sounds more like a public online diary, that should have a warning label....)
I look forward to blogging with y'all!
